District Gifted Advisory Meeting Dates

Here is a list of dates for our meetings:

Meeting 1:  Tuesday, September 19th, 4pm Admin Conference Room

Meeting 2: (Parent/Teacher Conf) Friday, November 3, 10am, BHS Library

Meeting 3:  (Parent/Teacher Conf) Thursday, February 8, 5:30pm BHS Library

Meeting 4: Monday, April 23, 4pm Admin Conference Room


From the Gifted Education in New Mexico Technical Assistance Manual, (pg. 21-22)

G. Advisory committees.

  1. Each school district offering a gifted education program shall create one or more advisory committees of parents, community members, students and school staff members. The school district may create as many See page 24 for an explanation of the exceptions above. Gifted Education in New Mexico Page 22 Technical Assistance Manual advisory committees as there are high schools in the district or may create a district-wide advisory committee.

  2. The membership of each advisory committee shall reflect the cultural diversity of the enrollment of the school district or the schools the committee advises. Representation from all schools the committee is

  3. Purposes. The advisory committee shall:

    1. regularly review the goals and priorities of the gifted program, including the operational plans for student identification, evaluation, placement and service delivery;

    2. demonstrate support for the gifted program;

    3. provide information regarding the impact that cultural background, linguistic background, socioeconomic status and disability conditions within the community may have on the child referral, identification, evaluation and service delivery processes

    4. advocate for children who have been underrepresented in gifted services due to cultural or linguistic background, socioeconomic status, or disability conditions, in order to ensure that these children have equal opportunities to benefit from services for gifted students; and,

    5. meet three or more times per year at regular intervals.

  4. Formal documentation of committee membership, activities and recommendations shall be maintained. If proposals are made by the committee to address any of the purposes as listed in Subsection G (3) of 6.31.2.12 NMAC, they shall be submitted in writing to the district administration. The administration shall respond in writing to any proposed actions before the next scheduled meeting of the advisory committee. [6.31.2.12 NMAC - Rp, 6.31.2.12 NMAC, 6/29/07; A, 12/31/09]

Mesa Alta - Math Innovation Pilot Program

Congratulations to Mesa Alta Junior High for being awarded the Mathematics Innovation Pilot Grant!  The program is scheduled to bring in $178,000 each year for 3 consecutive years, including $90,000 for technology upgrades.
